Copyright
Welcome to the Copyright area
The UK Intellectual Property office defines a copyright as "A right that protects many types of work, from music and lyrics to photographs and knitting patterns" Typically a copyright covers the written or spoken words and images but not any specific names or logos (these could be a Trademark) or ideas (these could be a patent or a design).
In the UK you don't need to register a copyright but, should the ownership rights ever be contested, you do need a means of proving that the copyright belongs to you, by keeping a version on record. In some countries (eg China) registration is recommended however remains voluntary but in other countries (eg USA) registration is a requirement if you wish to take legal action for copyright infringement.
